January Program
Color Theory with Margaret Lutzsky
Do you love quilting but struggle with picking out fabric colors? Or maybe you can pick out fabrics all day but don't know what to do with them once you get them home! Well, help is on the way.
Join us in January for a color theory/design lecture with Margaret Lutzsky. Margaret has a request-please bring along any quilting problems you may have. For example; a color combo that is not working, or a design that didn't turn out quite the way you imagined. You could also bring a piece of that fabric you love, but don't know what to do with it. Sue Frederick is bringing a Kaffe Fasset fabric. Margaret would also like you to share your successes. The more stuff to look at and discuss the better.
See you there!
The regular meeting of the Chambersburg Quilt Guild was held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 9, 2006. There were 78 members and two guests present.

The piece must be at least 24x24” square and depict the title of a song without actually showing the title. For further information, please contact Debbie Brug and she will gladly email or mail the guidelines.

Just a reminder that a baby quilt workshop is scheduled for Saturday, January 20, 2007 from 10-3 in our guild meeting room. There will be fabric available as well as pre-cut quilt top kits. Quilt labels will also be available for anyone bringing a finished quilt.
If you have fabrics that you wish to bring and use or donate, please do so. Remember to bring an extension cord with your sewing machine.
Plan to make a quilt no smaller than 36-inches square. A nice size is 45”x54” so that the baby can ‘grow into it’ and not out of it.
Happy Sewing!! Nancy Bender
The January bee will be held at the home of Amy Ensley from 9:30am to 2:00pm. There will be directions available at the January meeting or just give her a call at 717-530-9550.
Greetings ladies, I hope you are all having success with the construction of your swap blocks. I have seen some of them already and they are looking quite lovely. After review of the guild calendar, I would like to split the swap blocks into two groups and have them due at two different times.
Group I:
Bowties and Blue/White Stars
Date: February 10, 2007
Group II:
Christmas Stars and Pieced Tulips
Date: March 10, 2007
I am hoping to swap them out immediately after the meetings on those two dates and would appreciate the help of any members of the scheduled groups that can stay to swap the blocks. I apologize for moving half of the swap up to February, however I felt this was best after looking at the calendar and seeing that the Quilt Bus will be visiting us in April and it is also the weekend of the Lancaster show.
If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Bender at 423-6961 or email twins@pa.net.
The half day workshop with Linda Poole on March 10, 2007 is prior to our regular guild meeting. Linda will be teaching “Sunshine & Stained Glass” for both hand and machine appliqué—so you have a choice!! Payment is necessary when you sign-up. (See the Directory for more details.) There will be a sign-up sheet at the January and February meetings. You must be signed up by the Feb. meeting.
There has been a change with the Linda Poole workshop. This is the Stained Glass and Sunshine workshop which will be held prior to our regular guild meeting in March.
Until recently the program committee was not aware that there would be a $15 kit fee for this workshop.
Because of this added expense we decided to lower the workshop fee from $25 to $20. If you have already signed up we will refund your $5. If you have already signed up but would rather not take the workshop because of this added expense we will refund your fee. The sign-up sheet and supply lists will be available at the January and February guild meetings.
Any Questions? Call or email any program committee member.
With our people: Dottie Mooreland is recuperating from surgery.
Please keep in your thoughts and prayers: Jan Basher, Megan Music, Sharon Widney, and Patti Holesa.
Jan Basher recently received a sunshine quilt.
Please contact Lee Hively for those who need sunshine. This month just call 267-3761 Many thanks

Guild member Phyllis Shipman has been in touch with the State Museum of PA in Harrisburg. They have agreed to a viewing of a sampling of their quilt collection. The viewing would last from 90 minutes to 2 hours. There would be a $15 fee for each person. They would need a 6 week advance notice. We will be putting out a sign-up sheet in January to see if there is any interest.
If there is we can then pick a date (it will be a morning visit) and put out a second sign-up sheet for that date. Plus, we may also visit Smile Spinners and/or the quilt shop in Hershey. After all, we'll be in the "neighborhood", we'll be saving gas!
It’s that time already!!!!! It’s time to plan your retreat projects. You may choose to bring that pesky UFO to finish, some hand quilting, or bring something new and exciting to jump start your creativity. Whatever you decide, it’s FABULUOUS FUN with other quilter’s and NO COOKING. But first…get out your calendars and check the date, it’s changed. No more fighting with Easter, baseball, Quilter’s Heritage Celebration, and other area shows. The new date is March 16-18, 2007 with the Buchanan Trail Quiltmakers and the Friendship Quilt Guild. There will be sign-up sheets at the January meeting. The 2007 prices for the spring retreat are:
Single - $110
Double - $101
Dottie Moreland can provide the price for extra nights as well as more than 2/room.
Jan Krentz is coming from California in February to do her Summer Salsa Lone Star workshop. It is 2 days with her, and a lecture in between. It is going to take place at the St. Matthews Church. The details:

Sun. Feb. 18 Lecture from 2pm-4pm. $5 for non-members. Lecture title is Design Inspiration from Everyday Life

The Summer Salsa Lone Star is the one on the cover of her book. The 2-day workshop is $90. Her book is required and supply lists are available after payment is received. Anyone interested can call Ellen Oliver at 717-960-0549. She will give directions and further details.
The challenge for this year should be a lot of fun for both beginner and proficient quilter as well. The name of our project is “Name That Tune” and centers around designing a quilt depicting the name of a familiar song.
The guidelines are as follows:
The Quilt Bus is coming! The Quilt Bus is coming!
And we'll be having workshops. And a lecture. And buying opportunities.
These are 2 technique workshops. There is no specific project.
Then, during out regular meeting we'll have a lecture-"This is your Life".
Sign-up sheets and supply lists will be available at the January Meeting. You must pay your fee when you sign up. The March meeting will be the last time to sign up. Questions? Call any member of the program committee.
Cindy Kramer and Cindy Bender will be collecting guild member recipes for a guild cook book. The goal is to have the cookbook printed and available for fundraising in July 2007. You may hand your recipes to one of these quilters at a meeting, send by email (kwiltn@comcast.net, bendercj@innernet.net ), or snail mail (addresses in the membership directory).
